Weekly Update 5/23/19

Message from the Principal

We discovered that education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being.~Dr. Maria Montessori

Dear Parents,

I can hardly believe that this is the last Weekly Update of the 18-19 school year! What a wonderful year we have had. I have enjoyed watching the growth in the children as they have worked diligently this year. I know I speak for all the staff here when I say that we have been blessed to grow personally by working along side the children this year.

My prayer for every member of our community is a safe and restful summer and I look forward to preparing for another year with you and your children next year.

God bless,

Kristina

Message from the Environments

Message from the Young Children's House

It will be great fun next fall, when our new and returning toddlers arrive to the glorious sight of a full pumpkin bed. One of the garden beds in the Young Children’s Yard received Pumpkin seeds this week! We will take good care to water them before school is out. I will also be adding Pumpkins to the Children’s House garden, so our rising toddlers will have a full and joyful experience of the vines there, too!  In fact, a few of our friends had a chance to preview the Children’s House with me this week, since I spent a little time there myself. It was wonderful to see how seamlessly they entered, I gave a couple lessons and let them enjoy! They are ready to move up next fall, and their shepherdess (small ‘s’) is looking forward to moving with them.

Message from the Children's House

Miss Annie has been out this week for a family wedding and Mrs. Ashton has been helping in the Children's House this week. It has been a great opportunity for her to get to know the children she will be working with next year.

Message from Elementary

It's Tech Week!!  There is still so much to do to prepare for our performance this Friday!  The children have been working very hard, both as a community and individually, to make this production the very best it can be.

This week, we have already seen some amazing examples of children stepping up to meet the needs and challenges of this kind of work.  We have witnessed reluctant students rising to the occasion when required, and it has truly been inspiring!  There has also been a fair amount of anxiety and nerves already, so please do whatever is necessary at home to support the children through these inevitable hurdles.  Being in front of an audience demands a level of vulnerability and openness that puts many of us out of our comfort zone, so give some pep talks, soothe some fears, and CHEER LOUDLY when you come!

Message from Erdkinder

Erdkinder is working to finish the summary of Isabel of Spain's life and achievements. The ability to summarize accurately requires skill and practice. This is a perfect project to learn this important skill. The organization of the summary into a story that makes sense and is convincing and compelling is the next task. Sequencing facts in a logical order, providing the script or story all require the use of clear reasoning and communication. This is the challenging task the adolescents are working on. It is remarkable how well they are rising to it! They are firing on all cylinders and proving to be remarkable young adults.

Reminders

End of the Year Schedule Details

As we approach the end of the year, there are several events we would like to invite you to participate in.

Elementary Opera –  May 24th

1. There is a 10:00 am show for the children in our school. All families are welcome to attend this show, even those with no children in the opera. The show will take about an hour.

2. The main showing will be at 6:00 PM in the Auditorium. All family and friends are welcome. In lieu of tickets, donations will be accepted to cover the royalties and other expenses for future productions.

Elementary Pool Party – May 28th

The children would like to continue our tradition of having a pool party for the Elementary class during the last week of school, and Dr. R has kindly helped us to organize it.  It will be on Tuesday, May 28 at Sudley Club (8613 Rixlew Lane, Manassas).  Arrival will be at 8:15 a.m. at RMS.  We will shuttle children over to the pool for a 10:30 a.m. arrival, so we need drivers to accommodate our 36 students.  Please note that if you would like to meet us at the pool with your children rather than coming to school first, that is fine, butwe would like a heads-upin advance so that we do not arrange more drivers than we actually need.

Graduation –  May 30th  1:30 PM

Graduation will take place in the auditorium and is open to whole community. Families should arrive between 1:15 and 1:30 and are welcome to stay for cake in the cafeteria after the ceremony.

Sending Up – May 31st 11:10

This is an in-school ceremony only. You will receive an invitation if your child is moving up.

No End of Year Potluck

Given all the fun activities the children will be enjoying at the end of the year, we have decided to break tradition and not have an end of year potluck. Pick up will be at half day as always. There will be no Later Pick Up on the last day so all children should be picked up by 12:00 PM.
