Weekly Update 1/11/2018

Head of School's Message

“Independence is not a static condition; it is a continuous conquest, and in order to reach not only freedom, but also strength, and the perfecting on one’s powers, it is necessary to follow this path of unremitting toil.” -    Maria Montessori

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!  I trust everyone had a lovely Christmas.

I love the quote above, as it reminds us that although we work with the nature of the child, it is still work, and a continuous one, for them and for us.

Next week is our first Parent Night of the New Year, which will look at one of the most foundational keys to independence – literacy.  I do hope you all will be able to make it, it will be well worth your time.

Until then,

Sean

PS – Don’t forget – MARDI GRAS Gala is around the corner!  RSVP today, and make sure to bring all your friends who care about excellent Catholic education! This is our only major fundraiser, and we depend on all of your participation to make it a success! Thank you in advance!

Reminders

Inclement Weather Policy Reminder

Now that winter is upon us, we wanted to take an opportunity to reminder everyone about our closing and delay policy. RMS will follow all decisions announced by Prince William County Public Schools regarding cancellations, delays or early releases due to inclement weather.  In an effort to create a process that is predictable and consistent for parents, we will not make any independent decisions related to schedule changes due to weather conditions.

  • IF PWC is closed, RMS will be closed as well.
  • If PWC schools run on a delayed schedule, children in all programs should arrive at 9:45.
  • Pick-up times will be as usual.
  • If the school will dismiss early, parents will be notified by email, using the information provided on their emergency contact lists.
  • If Prince William County schools have a scheduled day off during inclement weather, we will follow Manassas City Public schools for a closing or delay and parents will be notified via email.

You can sign up for alerts from PWC here: https://pwcs.ss9.sharpschool.com/cms/One.aspx?portalId=340225&pageId=783698

Indoor Later Pick-Up

As the gym is now often in use after school, on cold or rainy days, Later Pick-Up will be held in the Cafeteria. Please park and enter door 5 and walk down the hall to pick up your child(ren.)

SCRIP

Don’t forget to order scrip weekly at www.shopwithscrip.com and drop off your cash or checks by Tuesday. Mr Garvey will collect them curbside or you can put them directly into the SCRIP box in the office. If you haven’t set up an account yet, our enrollment code is 8F91287E14129.

Remember that if you want to earn that $300 quickly, it is best to set up a PrestoPay account because you can purchase and use electronic SCRIP immediately from your handheld device or home computer, no more dealing with dropping off checks and waiting a week for your cards to arrive.

Forgot to place an order? No problem, there is a SCRIP binder in the office with an array of cards for purchase. Simply go into the office and Kristina will help you through the purchase process. Any questions or problems please contact Rosanne Garvey at rosanne505@verizon.net or 703-447-9229.

Head of School's Message

“Do not tell them how to do it. Show them how to do it and do not say a word.” -    Maria Montessori

Dear RMS Parents,

The above quote is most associated with the way a Montessori teacher gives a child a lesson, and that’s very true. But I think it is more applicable to the behavior we model for the children. If you think about it, that’s how all the most important lessons in life are learned… how we treat each other, how we love one another, our patience and forgiveness with one another.

There’s a power in silence, and silent witness, that far outstrips words. I pray we may all experience that power and peace especially as we approach the coming “Silent Night” season.

Noah will be offering the annual Advent Holy Hour for children TODAY from 4-5 p.m at All Saints. It will begin outside the parish library with the children making birthday cards and notes for Jesus and then the children will process into the main church for prayer, song, and to present their gifts to Our Lord exposed in the monstrance. All are welcome!

“Character formation cannot be taught. It comes from experience and not from explanation.” -    Maria Montessori

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the beautiful season of Advent, when we prepare ourselves for the coming joy of Christmas.  It is said that ‘joy is the conscious possession of a good’ and ‘peace is the tranquility of order’. It is remarkable to think that each of us, by careful and patient work on our selves, by the deliberate practice of gratitude, can increase our joy and our peace, and thereby increase the amount of joy and peace in the world. Astounding!

Here’s praying we all use this Advent season to the fullest, to prepare ourselves for the coming of the Lord.

God bless,

Sean

  1. Sign the visitors log so we have a count of visitors in the building.
  2. Receive a Visitor's Badge from the office staff.
  3. Check back in at the office when you leave to return the badge and sign out.

For large events or gatherings such as a Parent Guild meeting, a sign in sheet and badges will be provided to the meeting organizer for easy check-in.

Thanks so much for your patience as we begin this new process.
