RMS Welcomes Back Margaret Lucky as Our School Counselor

Did you know that Renaissance Montessori has a school counselor who comes in once day per week? Our school counselor is Margaret Luckey.  She holds an M.A. in counseling from Franciscan University of Steubenville and an undergraduate degree from Christendom College. In addition to being in her second year here at RMS, she also works as a school counselor at St. Rita’s Catholic School.  She is a resident in counseling at a private practice in Alexandria and is executive director of Siena Adoption Services.

School counseling differs from regular counseling and is, therefore, not a substitute or proxy for seeing a therapist.   A school counselor works to support both teachers and students in responding to individual situations and the needs of our students and student communities.  Our counselor offers classroom guidance and provides individual support for students as needed.  The school counselor also responds to students in crisis and can assist the school in communication and identifying problems and needs.  On occasion, the school counselor may recommend meeting with students individually or in small groups on a more regular basis. When this happens, the school counselor notifies the parent and will send home a permission slip, which can be retracted at any time.

The School Counseling Program at Renaissance Montessori School is designed to assist students in increasing self-awareness, formulating goals, problem-solving, identifying and over-coming obstacles, aiding in the development of greater self-direction and responsibility, managing stress, making decisions, increasing effective communication, and working effectively with others.
